One night early in the year, I checked out Pioneer Woman's blog. I was intrigued by her white chili recipe and loved all of the step-by-step pictures. She even has a little section with advice on writing blogs. She says that blogs are like plants and need to be watered daily- or almost daily, even if it's just a little bit. Uh oh.
So, where to start? Zach found a job and we've settled in Lafayette, Colorado and are reconnecting with some beautiful friends as we find our way back into life. We're learning and growing in God. And we miss our friends and family, who seem to be spread all over the world at this point. Sometimes I wish I could put them all in one little town and never have to live further than down the street from any of them. I feel like I am not quite here or there. Even though we have settled, my soul and spirit are still in transition and I feel a little awkward. I am learning how to do this whole domestic thing all over again, and find myself thinking, "I used to post recipes, ideas on menu planning, parenting, and sort my recycling, use cloth diapers, resist buying cereal and lunch meat, and read labels like a hawk?" Unbelievable! Who was that woman and where did she go??
One thing that is great about moving into a new house if that one can effortlessly create new rules. Like, "No jumping on the couch. Not in the new house." My favorite little trick we stumbled upon recently is this: we put The Jesus Storybook Bible near our dining room table, and near the end of the meal i get baby carrots and dip out of the fridge and set them on a plate in front of the boys. We read and they crunch and listen. With small children (2 and 3), family devotional times have always been a struggle for us, so this to us has been like gold :)
Love,
Kate
