I've been meditating on Luke 6 today. Here are the parts that stand out to me. All the letters are red.
Jesus said:
God blesses you who weep now,
for the time will come when you will laugh with joy.
God blesses you who are hated and
excluded and mocked and cursed
because you are identified with me.
When that happens, rejoice! Yes,
leap for joy! For great reward awaits you
in heaven...
But if you are willing to listen, I say, love
your enemies. Do good to those who hate
you. Pray for the happiness of those who
curse you. Pray for those who hurt you...
Love your enemies! Do good to
them! Then your reward in heaven will be very
great, and you will truly be acting as children
of the Most High, for he is kind to the
unthankful and to those who are wicked.
You must be compassionate, just as your
Father is compassionate.
Such hard words to live by. I want to say, "But, Jesus...haven't I taken enough?" and I really wish that instead of "Turn the other cheek," that Jesus had said, "Turn and walk away." Do you think it might be able to be interpreted like that? :)
Here are the lyrics to the song that is in my heart today:
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back
I know You are near
And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?
Chorus:
Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me
And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth
Chorus:
Yes, I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
Still I will praise You, still I will praise You
Thank you for reading.
Learning how to love,
Kate

ReplyDeleteok, five things! (well, maybe not that many)
ReplyDeletei LOOOOOOOOOOOVE that song and have
listened to it dozens of times over and over
and over.
now, let me at 'em! I'd like to . . .
but i'd better just recite this to you:
psalm 124
"if the Lord had not been on our side
-let kate and zak say-
if the Lord had not been on our side
when men attacked us,
when their anger flared against us,
they would have swallowed us alive;
the flood would have engulfed us,
the torrent would have swept over us,
the raging waters would have swept us away.
praise beto the Lord,
who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
we have escaped like a bird
out of the fowler's snare;
the snare has been broken,
and we have escaped!!!!
our help is in the name of the Lord
the Maker of heaven and earth.
amen.
lea, what a great psalm for us this week! i kind of want to be you when i grow up....i hope that's okay :)
